The 11th Annual Las Lomas Block Party: What Living in The Paseos Is Actually Like

On Friday, August 14, 2026, my neighborhood held its
eleventh annual block party. Las Lomas is a gated neighborhood
inside The Paseos village in Summerlin, built between 2005 and 2007 by three builders,
with homes roughly 2,932 to 3,637 square feet, and I live here. Frijoles & Frescas served
tacos, an ice cream truck pulled up for the kids, and about 50 neighbors spent the
evening on the community green. Here’s what that looks like, and what it tells you
if you’re considering buying in The Paseos.

Eleven years is the part that matters

Any neighborhood can throw a party once. Doing it eleven years running takes
somebody organizing it every single summer, and enough people turning up that it’s
worth doing again the next year. This year that was about 50 of us.

In Las Lomas it’s the HOA that puts it on. That’s worth knowing on its own, because
it’s a fair question what an HOA actually does with your money beyond landscaping and
gate maintenance. Here, part of the answer is that it books a caterer and an ice cream
truck once a summer and gets the neighborhood out on the lawn, and has for eleven
years running.

That’s a harder thing to find out than anything on a listing sheet, and it’s the
kind of detail I can only tell you because I live here.

What was actually there

Frijoles & Frescas
Grilled Tacos catered, they’re a Las Vegas taco spot with a location out on
West Charleston, so it’s a local business feeding a local street. An ice cream truck
came through for the kids. Cornhole boards on the lawn, coolers under the gazebo,
string lights strung between the posts, and the whole thing ran into the evening
as it cooled off.

Mid-August in Las Vegas means an outdoor gathering doesn’t really start until the
sun drops. It’s one of the reasons the shade here matters. The trees in Las Lomas are
twenty years old now and they do real work.

Where the neighborhood gathers

Every Summerlin listing mentions parks and trails. What that means in practice
varies a lot by neighborhood, and you can’t tell from a listing photo.

Las Lomas has two separate outdoor spaces, which is unusual.

Inside the gate there’s a green with a gazebo, a lawn big enough
for cornhole and a few coolers, benches, a wide paved path running through it, and
mature trees. That’s where the block party is held. It’s walkable from every home
here, which is the practical reason a gathering like this happens at all. If people
had to drive to it, it wouldn’t be in its eleventh year.

Directly across from the gate is Paseos Park, with the Paseos
trail system connecting from the same point. So there’s a private common area for
the neighborhood and a public park thirty seconds away. Most Summerlin
neighborhoods have one or the other.

What this tells you if you’re looking in The Paseos

Three things a listing won’t tell you:

• The common areas get used. Well-maintained common space is one
  thing. Common space people actually show up to is another, and eleven years is
  about as clear a signal as you’ll get.
• The trees are mature. Las Lomas was built between 2005 and 2007.
  Twenty years of growth is the difference between a shaded walk and an exposed
  one in August. The newer Summerlin West neighborhoods are beautiful and will get there
  , they aren’t there yet.
• Layout drives it. The green sits in the middle of the
  neighborhood rather than at the edge, so it’s a short walk from every home here.
  And Paseos Park is directly across from the gate, so there are two outdoor
  spaces here, one private and one public.

Is Las Lomas gated?

Yes. Entry is at Valle Florido Street and Desert Moon Road.

Who built Las Lomas?

Three builders: Toll Brothers, Woodside Homes and William Lyon Homes, between 2005 and
2007. William Lyon was acquired by Taylor Morrison in 2020. It’s built out, so
anything that comes available is resale.

How big are the homes in Las Lomas?

All two-story, three to six bedrooms, roughly 2,932 to 3,637 square feet. These are
the largest homes among the gated enclaves in The Paseos. Santaluz, Andorra and
Catalina are all smaller, and Santaluz is the single-story
option.

Does Las Lomas have neighborhood events?

Yes. The HOA has organized an annual block party for eleven years. The most recent
was on August 14, 2026, with catering from Frijoles & Frescas, an ice cream truck,
and around 50 neighbors on the community green.

What does the Las Lomas HOA cover?

Beyond the gate and common-area landscaping, the HOA organizes the annual block
party. Dues run $161.50 a month across two associations: $92.50 to the Las Lomas
sub-association and $69.00 to Summerlin West, as of August 2026.

How is The Paseos different from Summerlin West?

The Paseos was built roughly 2004 to 2015 and is fully built out, so the trees are
mature and everything trades as resale. Summerlin West
villages like Grand Park are new construction, opening from 2024 onward.
Different trade-offs on price, size, finish level, and how long you wait for shade.
